2011 Mavic Wheels Lineup

For 2011, Mavic has created a super hard breaking surface called Exalith which goes on the Cosmic Carbone SLR, R-Sys SLR and Ksyrium SLR. With the new braking surface you'll need to purchase special brake pads from Mavic. Of course you would have too. Another marketing ploy. Basically this "super hard breaking surface" is probably just a ceramic coating which you can use any brake pad on. Mavic is just trying to suck more money from the consumer by branding it some weird name and recommending you only use their brake pads.

You can easily make a similar wheelset for cheaper. Lace Mavic OP ceramics to DTswiss 240s. It won't be as light but it's definitely more bombproof with that ceramic breaking surface. Pair it with some coolstops and you've got a wheel and brakepad set better than what Mavic can offer. Don't get me wrong. Mavic makes quality products, just don't waste your money on the premade wheelsets.
