Wiggins Ending Season in September

Image from here.

Bradley Wiggins, team captain of Team Sky, will end his pro season in September with the Tour of Britain. For most riders the Tour de France is the last race in the pro tour season save for a few crits here and there. Wiggo is keeping his form straight into fall. When most riders will be vacationing, he'll be training. There are pros and cons of extending an already grueling season. One major con is the physical toll on your body. Trust me, after ALC9 I did no physical activity for 1 week. Just imagine doing ALC9 every few weeks with a training rides in between. One pro is you keep your riding form. Less down time is less time needed for training.

I believe that cyclist are one of the best endurance athletes, with top honors going to ultra runners.

STPL x Oakley Eyewear Pt. 2

Hope you beasts didn't drop all you allowance on the first collabo because Staple and Oakley are UP TO NO GOOD AGAIN! Same deal as last time. One old and one new school frame style. This iteration has the 1997 Razorblade and the 2010 Jawbone. If you're looking to cop the Razorblades they're available in very limited quantities. However, with the Jawbone being so new is available at Oakley flagship stores and online. Stunting is definitely a sickness.

I see you Schleck!

Image from here.

"Next year I can turn the tables and win the Tour. I did a bad prologue this year and I have to admit that, but Fränk crashing out was a big loss. If there were two of us in the mountains it could have been so different. But now I know that I can beat Alberto and that gives me huge confidence and motivation for next year."

BMC Impec

BMC weaves all their carbon in house using the Stargate this machine.

Beautiful weaves. Don't call those lugs, BMC uses the term shells.

Di2 tops off this monster.

I prefer the nude carbon as opposed to the team scheme.

The BMC team beast. You saw Cadel and Hincapie rocking this machine during Le Tour.

Mr CyclingTips (CT), of famed blog CyclingTips, was invited to BMC HQ in Switzerland to preview BMC's latest flagship model, the Impec. I've always been a fan of BMC for their untraditional frame shapes and geometries. This takes the cake as the baddest.

Riding for 28 Million

Images from here.

I read about this yesterday but couldn't find any photos of the kits. Long story short, before the start of stage 20 Team Radioshack put on custom black kits to bring awareness of the 28 million people living with cancer, but they had to change back to their original kits before the race could start. On the podium at the finale of the tour Team Radioshack broke the rules again and donned the custom black kits.

After it's all said and done, this will be Lance Armstrong's lasting legacy. Not that he won 7 Tour de France titles, but bringing awareness to the millions of people living with cancer though cycling and his Livestrong programs.

2010 Tour de France - Paris

Final General Classification
1Alberto Contador Velasco (Spa) Astana91:58:48
2Andy Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank0:00:39
3Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank0:02:01

Congratulations to:

Alberto Contador - Overall General Classification Winner (Yellow)
Alessandro Petacchi - Overall Points Classification Winner (Green)
Anthony Charteau - Overall Mountain Classification Winner (Polka Dot)
Andy Schleck - Best Young Rider (White)

Overall, an exciting 93rd edition of the Tour de France to watch. Next year should be even better with some big changes to happen in the peloton. If you missed my 2010 free agency post read it here. I wish Schleck would've came through in the ITT, but he actually lost time to Contador. Some people might put an asterisk next to Contador's name for not following tradition when Schleck had a mechanical. But when you have Menchov and Sanchez right behind you (position 3 and 4 overall, respectively) looking to take advantage you better get yours, because they will definitely get theres.

I'm looking for Andy Schleck to win big next year. I'm certain if his brother, Frank Schleck, didn't abandon the race due to a broken collarbone the person riding into Paris wearing yellow would've been different.

LOLUMAD?

PV with Team Hype

It's been a minute since the crew got together for a ride. Today was too nice not to ride. Southern California weather FTW!! We were missing a few people, but had a good group. We handled PV's finest climbs and rollers.

PSA: If you're an overweight individual please don't wear any pro tour team kits.

Jens is that Dude

Image from here.

Just by looking at the photo above you can already tell that Jens is a damn BEAST! Straight thugged it out on a kid's bike with toe clips while bleeding to catch the team car so he can get a new bike. JUST SAY NO TO SAG! WWJD?

I came over the top only 20 seconds down on the front group, but about 2 kilometers into the descent my front tire blew and I thought, “Oh God,” and I went down. Just one year after my horrible crash, and there I was tumbling on another mountain descent. And let me tell you, about the only place that feels good right now is my right ankle. The rest of me is all road rash. Plus I’ve got five stitches in my left elbow and then there are some ribs that are not in the right place! I may have to get x-rays, but I hate x-rays (the radiation), and plus, if I’ve got a fractured rib, what can anyone do about it?

The worst thing of all was that I almost got forced out of the Tour for a second year in a row. The problem was that the first team car was behind Andy Schleck, and the second had decided to go up ahead to hand out water bottles at the foot of the next climb. As a result I had no bike, because mine was shattered.

So then the broom wagon pulled up and was like, “Do you want to just get in?” And I said, “Oh no, I don’t need YOU!” But there I am with blood spurting out my left elbow and no bike. Finally, the race organizers got me a bike, but it was this little yellow junior bike. It was way too small for me and even had old-fashioned toe-clip pedals. But that is the only way I could get down the mountain, so I had to ride it for like 15-20 kilometers until I finally got to a team car with my bike.

Then, I still had to get up to the grupetto. All I can say is that that desperate times need desperate measures, but I got up there. And once I did it was grupetto all day long.

Needless to say, I had plenty of time to come up with a fitting book of the day. It’s from the Disk World series by Terry Pratchett. In it, the protagonist is Conan the Barbarian, who is a 70-year-old who has just survived everything. At one point he, and his other old warrior friends capture this village, but then they find that they are surrounded by an army of tens of thousands, and his only reaction is, “Oh man, it’s going to take days to kill all these people!” And that’s the way I was today when I was lying on the ground. I just thought, “Oh no, I’m going to Paris this year, I’m going to Paris. There’s just no way you are going to get me out of this race for the second year in a row!”

2010 Tour de France - Stage 17

Image from here.

YAWN. Stage 17 was the last climbing stage of the Tour and it was borinnnnngggggggg. Well boring in the sense that Schleck couldn't shake Contador. But it was exciting seeing the duo battle up the climbs. I expected Schleck to attack and he did, but Contador was fixed on his wheel the entire time. I guess was expecting something like Armstrong v Ullrich.

At least Schleck came away with a stage win. But riding in yellow is way better than white. The last chance for Schleck to ride into Paris wearing yellow is stage 19, the ITT. Last year he was 4 minutes back from the GC lead this time he's only 8 seconds. He's definitely in the hunt. Watch out Contador because the best young rider is about to tear it up in the ITT.
