Cycling prodigy, Taylor Phinny, to sign with BMC for the 2011 season. Even though he's been riding with RadioShack this summer. I initially thought the most logical team for Phinny was RadioShack, because he was riding for Livestrong U23 team and the affiliation with Armstrong. He'll be based in Italy for the 2011 pro season setting him up to ride in some of the classics and the grand tours. Good move for BMC to pick up this young talent. BMC has a great team but they're all getting older. Evans and Hincapie are past there prime and need to pass down the torch.
Phinny was being pursued by RadioShack, the new Schleck team and Garmin-Transitions. He explains that BMC just offered a lot more growth and opportunities. For a young star growth within a team is all that matters. Money will come, but the opportunities come and go. Especially if you plan on going to the olympics. He needs to be on the same bike for at least 2 years. RadioShack would offer Phinny a 1 year deal while BMC would offer 2.
But that's just half the story. It appears that Armstrong broke all communication with Phinny after BMC made the initial offer. Bad move by RadioShack. Phinny is the future.
