SMFH. Hollywood trying to capitalize on another growing trend. Don't get me wrong. I think Gordon-Levitt is a great actor (3rd Rock from the Sun), but this movie just looks all sorts of bad. I really hope that whoever made this movie consulted with the right people to make it sort of legit. I won't see this in theaters, def on my Netflix queue.

After seeing this awful trailer I re-watched MASHSF's first video. NOW THAT IS A FIX GEAR FLICK.

Congrats to Australia's first tour winner! It was well deserved. Thugged it out with the best and came out on top. To me, the defining moment for Evans was up the Alpe d'Huez. With 2 bike problems and being dropped early from an attack he climbed his heart out to catch the Schlecks. For being one of the oldest winners of the tour he def didn't look like it yesterday during the TT. Going from 1 minute behind Andy to 1.5 minutes over him in one stage was exciting to watch. Def not a bad showing for Leopard Trek either. 2 podium spots belonging to the Luxembourg team. This isn't the last time we'll see the Brothers Schelck, but it's def one for Evans.

Cav > Farrar. Can't stop the Missile. One last showdown in Paris and Cav shows us why he's the best sprinter.

Alpe d'Huez

Contador came out to play, but it was a little to late. He attacked early and often, and Andy Schleck responded to each one except up the final summit. Andy could afford to let Contador go because his main goal was to drop Voeckler and keep Evans at bay. Which he accomplished and is now draped in the golden fleece. He's currently holding a 57 second lead over Evans. Don't count Evans out though, he's a way better in the time trial than Andy is. By the end of tomorrow Evans maybe repping that mellow johnny.

Props to Voeckler. Along with rocking the maillot jaune on stages on stages on stages, he was carrying the pride of the nation on his back. He showed heart on every single stage, and you could see it on the podium every time. His unwillingness to concede the most prized jersey is the reason why I was secretly rooting for this little frenchman to ride into Paris wearing yellow. Sometimes it's all about the underdogs.

This tour is far from over, and it's been the most exciting in a minute. Except when Rasmussen and Contador went at it in 2007.

ANDY STIFF NECK FTW!

Leopard Trek had the gangster strategy today. It was executed flawlessly. Put 2 riders in the breakaway knowing that Andy will attack. Then have those 2 riders pull Andy to the end. That strategy gave Andy the 2nd overall, stage win, and 15 seconds behind Voeckler. BMC, Saxo Bank, and Europcar failed today. How did you not prepare for that Leopard attack? Actually, I take that back. I'm pretty sure they knew it was coming, just not that early.

Ain't no bike change is going to get you the yellow jersey. Just sayin' Conti. OH, and learning english probably won't hurt. Just sayin'. I have no idea what's wrong with the defending tour champ. For the past 2 weeks he's appeared sluggish. Maybe the crashes in the 1st week affected his mentality. I dunno though. Yesterday he looked like he may be returning to proper form, but from what I 've seen to day. He's dunzo.

Voeckler had a nice ride in yellow, but with only 15 seconds on Andy Schleck. Expect the golden fleece to be off his shoulders soon. Team Leopard Trek is just too strong of a team. That one two punch combo from the Schleck brothers is just too much to handle for most teams.

Evans is a damn beast. At 34, he's riding in his prime. Pulling the entire peloton by himself to catch Andy Schleck. What trips me out is that road racing wasn't his first discipline (mtb was). But his GC years are dwindling fast. People were saying this was his year to win. With only a few stages left, I'm not sure Evans can be in the maillot jaune in Paris.

Tomorrow's stage (19) will be even more exciting than today's (18). With numerous GCs still in the hunt expect a gangster finish on the Alpe d'Huez. The rider who wins the Alpe d'Huez usually rolls into Paris the number 1 overall. Just like Carlos Sastre did in 2008. EXCITE I HAZ ONE.

ZOMG WHERE'D THEY COME FROM?!

Stage 17 was epic.

All the GCs finishing together after the Spain pain train of Contador and Sanchez looked like they pulled away to gain valuable seconds on Evans and the Schlecks. It couldn't have been more perfect with the way the stage ended. Up until the final corner I thought, and so did Phil Ligget, the Spain pain train gained valuable time on Evans and the Schlecks. Then BOOM (goes the dynamite) here come the rest of the GCs around the bend. I don't know if it was just the producer holding out for the dramatics, but I would assume Conti's feelings got hurt when all the GCs finished with the same time. All that work for naught.

Everyone gained time on Vockler after he crashed twice on the final descent.

Oh yeah, and Boasson won the stage with a suspect celebratory move. After placing 2nd to Hushovd yesterday this win was much deserved. Dude is young too. Watch out in a couple of years for this guy. I just hope he works on his win move.

Can't wait for tomorrow. 3 category HC climbs. Something tells me there's going to be some shake ups in the top 10.

Review - Outlier Summer Shorts

By far the best shorts I've ever owned. Run, swim, bike, or straight up look good. These shorts do it all. It's also made with fast drying, highly breathable, and stretchy fabric. Technical outerwear that looks fresh to def? YES PLEASE! The $128 price warrants the quality. I got these shorts 6 months back and worn them at least 3-4 times a week and they're still in the same shape as day 1. Top notch product form Outlier. I wouldn't expect anything less.

I'd go as far as say this is one of my favorite piece of clothing I own.

2011 Tour De France

The culmination of the Pro Tour season starts July 2, and I'm sure it will not disappoint. The TTT is back this year after a 1 year absence. It should be exciting to watch especially with the new teams formed this season.

But, the stage I'm most excited about is stage 18. This will be the climax of the race and should decide who will win it all. Stage 18 has 3, yes that's 3, NC (harder than category 1) climbs. That's a game changer of a stage.

In an attempt to make my fixie more roadie I copped some thangs to help me do so. During ALC I used a Camelbak. Convient? Yes. It held more than 2 24oz bottles would and it would house all sorts of gadgets in there. From my digital camera to my tools to spares and etc... Stuntastic? Hardly. It was cumbersome at times. I had to keep adjusting the straps for it to sit right on my back, and refilling it was a process and a half. The worse part is, it covered the back of the HYPE jersey. SACRILEGIOUS!

Enter the Elite universal cage mount. Adding an additional water bottle cage never got easier. Now I can stunt properly with Rapha bottle in hand.

New Cockpit Day

Been itching to do some bikery things recently. What better way than get a new cockpit. I've been using Deda Pista bars for a minute. A long ride with track drops is not the business because of 2 things. 1, while the reach when riding in track drops makes you more aero it also does a number on your upper back and shoulders for extended periods. 2, limited hand positions make for an uncomfortable ride.

With all that said. I did ride ALC with track drops and didn't find any REAL discomfort. I'm probably just being baby and finding an excuse to drop some bread to make a swag sandwich.

I'm going to be honest. The frame looks like any generic asian made carbon frame. I had no idea BMW was into bicycle manufacturing. Motorcycles? Yes. Bicycles? I dunno. And who was their bicycle consultant? Why would you EVER put an Ultegra drivetrain when you're claiming "technically-sophisticated equipment" and "top quality bike"? The drivetrain should've been Di2. The wheelset should've been some 404 carbon clinchers. The list goes on and on.

The only saving grace is the dope M badge. Everything else is meh.

Caught this from, MVC rider, Ryan. Garret from famed MASH SF crew tackled one of 2011's Tour of California climbing stages. The Mt. baldy route was 75 miles and nearly 12k feet of climbing. SOCAL has some of THE BEST cycling routes. Coupled with THE BEST weather year round, and you've got THE BEST riding conditions.

I've never handled anything like Mt. Baldy, but around my hood there's PV. You can get in about 40miles with about 4k feet of climbing or more depending on the route. Not too shabby.

And how does one conjure up the $1200 price tag. OH, i know how. Pinarello was like let's put useless bends on the top tube, seat and chain stays and market it saying it dampens road vibrations.

First of all those bends won't dampen anything because a person who'd cop this wouldn't ride it on the road but on a sidewalk. Second of all, that horrid colorway screams I bought this for fashions. This collabo def caters to a different crowd. Please give me MASH SF x Cinelli crowd pleasers.

One of my fave SOCAL bike shop builds an absolutely stunning and deadstock bernard Hinault LOOK. Sky, of Velo Cult fame, had the opportunity to cop a brand new Hinault LOOK from someone in France. He built it up proper going all C-Record. Not sure if it's period correct, but if he's going to ride it not sure you'd want that old school gruppo on there.

Best of Both Worlds?

Engineering students at UPenn developed this chain less drive train bike. With this drivetrain you can switch between fixed and multi gear setups with a flip of a button. Once you start rolling an LED screen mounted on the handlebars reads the usual bike related things (speed, cadence, etc...). I'm all for inovation, but nothing will ever beat the real thing.

Those kids at UPenn sure know how to beast right though. H+SON hoops, integrated bar stem, deda seat post, and Gatorskins. The best part? The EDGE fork. Not that ENVE crap, an EDGE fork.

Johan Van Summeren from Team Garmin-Cervelo took the overall this past Sunday. With Fabian Cancellara from Leopard trek taking 2nd honors.

Cancellara is showing strong form during the spring classics. He took 3rd at the Tour of Flanders taking place on April 3rd. If he keeps this up, he's definitely one of the top contenders for the grand tours. Coupled with the Schleck bros, you've got yourself one HELLUEVA team.

I'm all for when cycling tech clothing meets fashion (i.e, Rapha x Paul Smith), but this gets a giant MEH. I understand the reason behind Paul Smith dabbling with cycle wear, and it was executed to perfection when they teamed up with Rapha. But this attempt by Fred Perry doesn't do anything for me. Why would I want to wear a champ stripe jerseyesque shirt out? Sorry Fred stick to tennis.

Outlier is killing me. I've been looking for a clean bomber jacket with out all the hoopla. And the 4Season fabric is used. And it's a tailored jacket with performance in mind. And it has merino wool lining the cuffs and collar. YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS. It has a steep price tag of $290. But like all things cycling related the price always reflects the quality.

I was in San Diego over the weekend repping IMBC at Stone's 2011 homebrew competition. After the competition I had some free time so I dropped by Velo Cult to see what's happening.

They collabo'd with Freight Baggage on some rolltop bags. Really dope bags adorned with Velo Cult's all seeing eye patches coming in a few colors (sorry no pics). Also coming soon should be new sweaters and shirts. OH, and water bottles.

What do you get when you beast out some beast sunglasses? You get these glow in a the dark jumpoffs. Atmos collaborated with Oakley on a pair of Jawbones. It def has some wow factor at night, but in the light it's just meh. The best part of this? The comments on Hypebeast. Def LOL worthy.

I handled a jersey swap with the SF/Oakland based cycling crew Mixtape Velo Crue (MVC). The homie Ryan designed the entire jersey and it came out super clean. Loving the colorway. What do I say always say about the details? ITS ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS. Check that topography map on the rear pockets. Easily my favorite part of the jersey. The MVC logo couldn't have been done any better. M-power anyone?

MVC will be thoroughly repped in LA.

Bold words from Riis, team manager of Saxo Bank-SunGard. Putting Contador on that high of a pedestal is a bit pre-mature. Better than Merckx? Doubt it. Better than Armstrong? Doubt Contador can ever touch those 7 wins. I hate to admit it but Contador is a strong rider. Easily top 5 rider in today's pro scene, but definitely not a GOAT.

Review - Rapha Base Layer

I took advantage of Rapha's deal on a 3 pack of merino wool base layers. In the past I've been using synthetic base layers, and they did there job. Kept me warm in cool weather, but when it got hot it was not the business. Come in merino wool base layers. One word: TRUTH. It regulated my body temperature by adding warmth when it was cool but not so much to overheat me when it warmed up. It felt like I was wearing nothing and didn't restrict any of my movement. And the most important part, I didn't wreck like ass after the ride. I'll never go back to anything else. Rapha base layers saved my ride.

Drop that extra dough on quality base layers. Don't cry and say it's too expensive when you're dropping money on your bike like you have a golden goose in your backyard. You'll thank me later.

You know the drill. Cop hurrr.

Motorist Tries to Kill Cyclists

On the last Friday of every month cyclists meet up to do group rides called Critical Mass. We're talking as few as 10 or as many as 1,000s. This past Friday in Brazil there was a Critical Mass which ended in tragedy. WARNING, this is hard to watch. If you got the stomach fast forward to 0:45. My thoughts are with those riders.

The dude that ran over those riders is claiming self defense. WTF? Here's an except of the article:

"The central bank official, Richard Neis, 47, who ran over dozens of cyclists in the Lower City , on Friday, was presented to the civil police around noon on Monday for questioning.

Neis came to call the Bureau of Crimes, Traffic accompanied by two lawyers and escorted by four policemen from the Special Operations Battalion (SOB). To escape the press, who waited in front of the building, he entered the parking lot.

According to the lawyer Luis Fernando Coimbra Albino, Neis plead self-defense of himself and his 15 year old son. The driver decided to come forward to say that plowed into the cyclists after feeling threatened by alleged coups against his black Golf."
