Downtown from Behind

Caught this on my Facebook stream from friend and avid cyclist Alfie. Absolutely love this concept. There is no other way to absorb what a city has to offer than to ride through it. It's fast enough to get to places and slow enough to appreciate everything. What a great way to showcase a city. OH and the back shots of gurrrs on bikes doesn't hurt.

"downtownfrombehind is a photographic project capturing subjects riding their bike from behind on every street, some 200+ streets, avenues and lanes below 14th in New York City.

The concept is an environmental portrait for each street and its subject. The goal to highlight a unique set of individuals who have had an impact, previously or currently on downtown New York City, making downtown what it is today.

Subjects photographed to date have included designers, musicians, artists, restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, hoteliers, academics and celebrity activists.

As well as highlighting some of downtown’s most dynamic individuals in their respective fields, downtownfrombehind is passionate about sustainability and a greener environment. downtownfrombehind supports Little Ambitious; a philanthropic initiative supporting Young Designers & Inventors who are focused on green innovation that will have a positive impact on our environment. Design Will Save The World."

Chain Gang Girls

Caught this from facebook stream from GFunk rider John. The same crew with the ill purple buffalo print jerseys, The Chain Gang Kids, also has a gurrr division. HOT DAMN! Gurrrs who ride is one of my many kryptonites. I'm surprised my neck hasn't snapped off yet.

Photos from and check the Chain Gang Girl's blog here.

Outlier Liberated Wool Peacoat

Straight up classy. Caught this on Outlier's blog. It's too warm all year to ever rock a pea coat in Southern California. But believe me, if the weather ever dipped below 65 degrees for a week plus, this would be insta-copped.

I've been rocking the 4season OG pant for a minute and the quality is top notch. I love the fact I can ride in them all day and they won't stank up the place and they look fresh enough to wear where ever your bike takes you.

If this last photo doesn't make you want to cop this pea coat. I don't know what will.

Photos and stay fresh on your 2 wheeler hurrr.

Looks like I missed out on an epic GMR ride this past Sunday. Photos courtesy of GFunk rider John aka Tyler Durden. The ride wasn't all smooth sailing though. Mike from Team Swarm went down hard while descending.

Going 40+ MPH his front tire blew and he was thrown from his bike, and landed on the back of his head. He was stabilized and airlifted out. He was wearing a helmet, so it definitely could've been worse. Rumor has it that he's out of the hospital and doing good. HEAL UP!

The Peloton

Via Tracko.

Cycling x photography. You got the majority of my interest summed up right there.

"Kölln travelled the length and breadth of Europe attending every major race on the calendar to photograph the entire professional peloton and capture their images just moments after crossing the line. The results, as previewed in Rouleur issue 4, are the most hauntingly insightful portraits ever seen in the cycling world."

Rouleur killing it here. Preorder the damn thing hurrr.

Bike to School

Wait. You're telling me I can save money, help the environment, and lose weight!? NO WAI!!

24k gold plated Level. BALLIN!!!

Whose Rode is it Anyway?

Great blog entry from Team Lope rider and friend Blair on Esurance's website. Read the post here.

You can break it down to 2 separate but equally important things. Understanding bicycle laws and think safety. Almost all avid cyclists know the bicycle laws but not every driver does. Better safe than sorry is a good rule of thumb to follow especially in crowded metropolitans. Read the blog post and re-familiarize your self with the basic laws. Laws aren't made to be broken, but to be abided by. Ride safe.

Seat Angle Fail

Saw this bad boy in SD over the weekend. Even in my drunken state I caught this gem of a fail.

Hood Jaunt

Met up with GFunk rider and all around good dude John, aka Tyler Durden on LAFixed, for a wholesome loop in the hood. Cerritos isn't bad at all, it's when you pass the 5 FWY and enter La Mirada and Whittier where things get a little sketchy. All in all a good loop with some nice climbs. Some of which can put a couple PV climbs to shame. The climb on Colima was a nice gradual climb, but the residential climb to Turnbulll Canyon was a bitch.

Switch back to the switch back so you can switch back to the switch back. Yeah, it was like that. Definitely not for babies.

CicLAvia this Sunday

LA is putting together their own version of ciclovia, aptly named CicLAvia. I blogged about it back in September, but it's happening this Sunday from 10AM-3PM. Streets will be closed the entire route within the time allotted. Meaning no cars in the streets. If you want to experience something new and exciting come out to CicLAvia.

Contador Further Denies Doping

The day before Contador was tested positive for Clenbuterol, he tested positive for plasticisers. Plasticisers is a chemical found in plastic IV bags. A test reveled that Contador had eight times the minimum of this chemical in his urine suggesting he had a blood transfusion. Contador continues to deny that he doped on the Tour.

In related news, Bernhard Kohl straight up said "that's it's not possible to win the Tour de France without it [doping]". Big words coming from a retired professional rider.
